Centennial Magnolia Tree, Day 1
Feb. 3,2010 -- In Frisco, Texas at the entrance to Centennial High School's gymnasium, there are 10-12 large magnolia tress, a kind with the cool, thick leaves. The campus is less than 10-years-old so these trees I think are some large, fast growing beauties. Last fall I picked up one of those seedy pods, picked out 3-4 of the shiny, bright red seeds and soaked them in water for a few weeks before planting them in some basic potting soil. Since then, about 20-30 days, I've kept them warm and wet, on a window sill during the day and under a 60-watt, 3k (kelvin) light bulb all night. Today one sprouted! Hopefully, it will be 20-feet by next winter.
